Finasteride is the main active ingredient in Finast tablets. Finast inhibits the transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT plays a role in the progression of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Finast is prescribed to alleviate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men suffering from an enlarged prostate. Additionally, Finast may be utilized for other indications not mentioned in this medication guide.
Follow your doctor’s instructions when using Finast. The suggested dosage, intended for men only, is one 5-milligram tablet daily. You can take Finast with or without food. Continue using Finast even if you feel fine. Be sure not to skip any doses. Taking Finast at the same time each day can help you remember. Finast acts as an enzyme inhibitor. It reduces the levels of the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which significantly contributes to prostate enlargement; decreasing DHT results in the reduction of the swollen prostate gland.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearing the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume with your regularly scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at once.
If you notice any of these serious side effects, discontinue Finast and seek immediate medical assistance: an allergic reaction (such as difficulty breathing, throat constriction, swelling of lips, tongue, or face, or hives); a significantly irregular or rapid heartbeat; or confusion and unusual behavior.
Other less severe side effects are more common. Continue taking Finast and speak with your doctor if you notice dizziness; feelings of anxiety, irritability, or nervousness; tremors (shaking); headaches; or skin flushing.
